We are proud to introduce The Art of Fly Fishing, a series of intimate, three-hour, on-the-water workshops designed to move anglers beyond the fundamentals and into true skill development.
These are not lectures or demonstrations from the riverbank.
They are hands-on learning experiences built around demonstration, application, repetition, and refinement.
Each workshop is intentionally limited in size and conducted on some of the Northeast’s most celebrated trout waters, including the Battenkill River and the Upper Delaware River.
The Art of the Dry Fly Presentation
Our inaugural workshop focuses on one of the most demanding and rewarding disciplines in fly fishing: the dry fly presentation.
Participants will actively develop the skills that define confident, effective dry fly fishing, including:
Reading currents and understanding how they influence a drift
Water mends and aerial mends
Stack mending and line management
Choosing the appropriate gear
Selecting the appropriate fly
Leader and tippet selection
Stealthy wading techniques
Understanding angles and presentation
Fly placement and drift management
Timing and execution of the hook set
Developing the ability to make the fly behave naturally on the water
This is a structured, on-the-water progression from demonstration to execution to refinement. Each three-hour group workshop begins with a focused introduction before moving directly onto the river. Trico Unlimited guides demonstrate each concept in real time, giving participants a clear visual understanding of why each technique works.
Then you apply it repeatedly with coaching in real moving water and real conditions. This is where skill is built—not simply observed. The goal is to understand what makes a great presentation and leave with the ability to consistently create one.
2026 Workshop Dates
THE BATTENKILL RIVER
September 19, 2026 — Arlington, Vermont
Participants will meet at Trico Unlimited HQ in Arlington, Vermont, for a brief introduction and continental breakfast before traveling to a carefully selected section of the Battenkill River. From there, the workshop begins on the water, with demonstrations followed by hands-on instruction and real-time coaching.
THE UPPER DELAWARE RIVER
September 26, 2026 — East Branch, New York
Our second workshop will take place on the Upper Delaware, meeting at the historic Beaver-Del Campgrounds in East Branch, New York. The format remains consistent: focused instruction, immediate application, real-time coaching, and extended time on the water developing and refining presentation skills.
An Intimate Learning Experience
To preserve instructional quality and ensure meaningful time on the water, each group workshop is limited to just 10 participants. This intentionally small group allows the Trico Unlimited guide team to provide direct, individualized coaching while maintaining the camaraderie and shared experience that make these workshops special.

Your waders, the fly rod you love to fish with, a state-issued fishing license, and most importantly, a willingness to learn and improve your presentation skills—all while having fun in a relaxed group setting.
